Wedding Centerpieces

I need help with wedding centerpieces. I am getting married October 15th, 2011 and I have no idea what to?

do for my centerpieces. I have already bought a vase but I'm not sure if I want to use flowers or candles as the centerpieces. I don't want pumpkins so that is not an option. My colors are berry and cranberry. Any suggestions or links would be great.
Also, do your centerpieces have to match the colors in your bouquets?

The colors of the centerpiece do not have to be the same exact color or flowers as your bouquets, but they should match your wedding colors.

Don't drive yourself crazy over them. As long as they are tasteful, no one will remember what they were. Think about it. Before you started planning your wedding, do you remember the centerpieces of weddings you attended?

I love the look of candles. They will give a nice glow to your reception. If you pick candles make sure they are unscented. Scented candles are nice, but can be cloying and clash with the scent of the food.

- A large pillar candle on a mirror surrounded by a wreath of flowers (real or silk) that match your colors is simple and lovely. Or just surround the candle with silk or real fall colored leaves.
- a bowl with floating candles is also nice too.
- two taper candles with a vase of flowers is a classic.
- I also like a candelabra.

If you want to use the vases you already have you can fill them with cut flowers.

- tulips come in many colors and have no scent
- I am not a carnation fan. The scent reminds me of a funeral, but if you like them they are fairly inexpensive and come in many colors.

Ask your florist what flowers are least expensive around your wedding and have little or no scent.

Don't be afraid to mix things up a bit. One table can have two candles with a vase of flowers between them. Another can have two smaller vases with a pillar between them. Just try to keep the candles the same.

The dollar store is your friend. You can find a variety of vases and candle holders there. If the colors don't work, buy one and see how is looks if you spray paint it. If it doesn't work, you only lost a buck.

You also want to make sure the centerpieces aren't too high. Your guests should be able to see each other across the table. At my brother's and a friend's wedding the venue had high clear glass centerpiece holders. The flowers went on top. It made the wedding look like a sea of flowers (very lovely) but didn't block guests from being able to talk across the table.
